The Theory of Tourism and Leisure
Gamers and tourists share a certain attitude when they enter their magic circle: they have expectations about the world they will encounter, about the fun they will have and about what they will see and learn. Gamers and tourists both experience virtual, created worlds with symbols that represent a subset of reality.

The theory of tourism and leisure has been used worldwide in designing tourist attractions and resorts. This presentation will discuss how (serious) game design can merit from the tourism approach by looking at the process of both a Holiday and the construction of tourist attractions.
