Zoomworld - The Faculty of Art, Media & Technology of the Utrecht School of the Arts offers preparatory courses, bachelor and masters programmes and research degrees. Besides education, the Faculty focuses on research as well. In relation to research projects that students of the School of the Arts do, the Stichting Bartimeus asked these students to research the potential of auditory ZUI’s, to be used by visually impaired computer users:
- Jonathan Jansen (Sounddesign / HKU Hilversum);
- Maarten Siem (Sounddesign / HKU Hilversum);
- Martijn van Alphen (Interaction design / HKU Hilversum); and
- Marvin de Bruin (Interaction design / HKU Hilversum)
In September 2007, 4 students from the Utrecht School of Music & Technology were commissioned to research the potential of ZUI's (Zoomable User Interfaces), to be used by visually impaired computer users, at an age of 12 to 18 years old. They researched the main features of a ZUI, and thought about the possibilities of using the best features of a ZUI for creating an Audio-ZUI. The result is a comprehensible document, which contains all research, and a framework for people who want to create an (Audio)-Zui in the future. Also they created a simple demo to illustrate the possibilities of ZUI's for the use in games and applications. |
