Makoto Maeda - works for IMAQ, the Intellectual Property Management Center, at Kyushu University, Japan. He got his Certificate Diploma from the Department of Electrical Engineering, from Kurume National College of Technology in March 1983. After his graduation, he worked for NEC Corporation as a Technical Researcher until 1992. After that he worked at Kyushu Matsushita Electric Co., Ltd., which is now Panasonic, Japan, in the Technical, Marketing and Planning staff. He changed jobs in 2004, when he became the Deputy Leader of the Liaison Group of IMAQ of Kyushu University. In 2006, he became Leader of the Project Support Group. In July 2007, he became Deputy Director of the International Center (UNIC) at that same University.

IMAQ is the single point of contact for all IP management and university-industry collaboration at Kyushu University, Japan. IMAQ's multi-faceted system ensures that the unique needs for university-business collaboration progress smoothly. The main purposes of the center are to distribute the intellectual property (IP), connect human networks, and utilize the brand name of the university to provide a wide-range of benefits to society (especially on the international and regional levels). Another objective is for the university to learn about society’s trends and needs through the collaborative work, and to apply this knowledge in order to vitalize its own research and education. |
