NPO GameJam

npox.pngHot Spot, a network of program makers of the public broadcastings, organizes a GameJam in association with the NLGD Festival of Games and the Dutch Game Garden. Game developers and program makers will form teams together, which will compete in the development of a game. `Purpose of the GameJam is that the different teams will develop a game around one of the current affairs programs of the public broadcasters’, thus Willem van Zeeland on behalf of the organization. `To do this, they will have two days. That is not enough time to develop the game entirely, but enough to develop a solid concept. It concerns a serious game.' The subjects in a current affairs section are not too brief for that matter', is the opinion of van Zeeland.

`There are all kinds of questions that already last a long time, such as the conflict between Israel and the Palestinians for example. Matters for which it is possible to use a game in some sort of media mix. It’s a possibility to do that online, but you can also use the results of the game for a television program for example, or organize a final on television etcetera.' Van Zeeland indicates the importance of gaming for the public broadcasters. `Gaming is just as large as television for the new generation. The GameJam is a possibility for the world of gaming and public broadcasting to get to know each other.' The Game jam is kept on November 1 and 2 in the Mediacentrum at Mediapark Hilversum. Four teams of each three game developers and three program makers will participate. On Sunday the teams will present the results to each other. A skilled jury will then judge the proposals. The presentation is on November 17 during the NPOX-festival.
